Monica Melgoza - Estrella

Monica Melgoza first joined MANA in 2013, as a mentor for the Hermanitas Program, and later joined the Hermanitas Leadership team. She has been a part of the first Latina Success Leadership Program, Latina Success Conference and Brindis Gala Committee, Programs Leadership Council Committee, The Hermanitas Tia’s program, and recently completed her term as a Board Member for MANA de San Diego! Monica is a Contract Analyst for the County of San Diego, Health and Human Services Agencies.

Monica’s friend invited her to an Hermanitas mentorship orientation meeting to learn more about the program. She says, “I did not see myself as a mentor; I didn’t think I had anything to offer. But after hearing what the program was about, how easily I could contribute and what they offered to our local young Latinas, I decided to join the program.”

As a first generation Mexican-American, Monica shares her experience of feeling lost in between two cultures. She believes that, “MANA embraces our bi-nationality and helps us bring out the leaders inside all of us.”
Monica is inspired by the “Commitment, energy, and willingness,” from the herMANAs within the organization. Since she has been a part of the Hermanitas Program, she also shares how she enjoys watching the hermanitas, “grow into young ladies, and evolve to become confident, smart, and caring human beings. It is all about planting the seed.”

Most people do not know that Monica and her husband met at the 2014 MANA Holiday Soiree! She says, “It comes to show that MANA has been very good to me.”
Monica is a MANA Estrella!
