Dr. Ted Martinez, Jr. - Estrella
In January 2016, Dr. Ted Martinez Jr. joined the Board of Directors of MANA de San Diego and established an Advocacy Initiative to address critical issues in the Latina community. After one year on the Board, he was appointed to serve as Vice President of Programs. Through his leadership efforts, Dr. Martinez has helped strengthen MANA de San Diego and the Latina/o population in San Diego. He is a crucial leader in the organization who is committed to the equality of Latinos. He is also serving on the Board of Directors for the Chicano Federation. Through the Chicano Federation, Dr. Martinez is committed to improving the lives of all residing citizens of San Diego, focusing on creating empowering opportunities for the diverse communities in San Diego.
In 2013, Dr. Martinez established a partnership with the University of San Diego to host the National Community College Hispanic Council (NCCHC) Leadership Fellows Program which is designed to prepare Latinas/os for executive leadership roles in the Nation’s community colleges. He is also currently teaching as an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego. In addition, Dr. Martinez has served on the Board of the California Association of Latino Community College Trustees and Administrators (CALCCTA) that strives to strengthen the support that Latina/o students receive in California’s community colleges, along with issues of diversity and inclusion. He has served as president of the National Community College Hispanic Council and on the board of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU).
Throughout his work, Dr. Martinez has always made an effort to make a difference in everything he is involved. Whether it is through serving students, serving the community, strengthening programs, organizations, institutions and communities, it has always been at the core of Dr. Martinez’s personal and professional life. He also provides financial support for those organizations that reflect his values of diversity and inclusion and mentors countless professionals who seek his guidance. Dr. Martinez has always worked and continues to work on providing opportunities for all underrepresented people, not only in San Diego, but on a national level, and we are lucky to have him on our Board as part of our team at MANA de San Diego.
